New Look, Same Photographer

Journal Entry: Mon Oct 19, 2009, 2:07 PM

As some of you may have noticed, I have taken up portrait photography.  This is due to two main reasons:

1) I'm taking Photography 3 at COTC and this class concentrates on...you guessed it, portrait photography.

2) I've discovered that I really enjoy it, a lot!

Portrait photography is a very different medium than landscape photography and presents a whole new range of difficulties and skills to master.  Not that I would say I have mastered landscape photography yet, but it's always good to broaden our horizons.  I am extremely excited to learn the art of studio lighting (And it is an art, don't let anyone tell you different!) and the art of working with models.

You also may have noticed that I have been posting quite a few shots of Samantha.  I can't help it, she was great to work with, very easy going and relaxed and I think that comes across in the shots.  We shot for two hours with many wardrobe and lighting changes, so even though I have already posted quite a few, there will no doubt be more coming from this same shoot.  I also hope to continue to shoot her pregnancy and then get some full family shots once the baby has arrived.

Over the next couple of months it is a safe bet that there will be many more portraits coming.  Hope that's OK with everyone ;).  Please, anyone who may have some feedback, don't hesitate.  The only way we as artists can grow and improve is through constant critique and criticism.

It's a hundred and six miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark, and we're wearing sunglasses. Hit it

No need to thank me for :+fav:s, :+devwatch: or congratulations. You deserve them. Being egotistic, i'd rather you spend more time creating work that will wow me even more. :-)

Master Lighting Guide for Portrait Photographers is on the photo shelf of my desk. It has been read from cover to cover. I found one that I like a lot as a supplement. Pick up Digital Portrait Photography by Steve Sint. I think you will find it is a good addition.

Good to finally meet you! :handshake:

Thanks David, I will check that out. It was good to meet you as well. Next time you're over this way, give me a shout, maybe we can actually go shoot together.

Just... dropped in to say thanks for the :+devwatch: Zachariah!
If I'm not mistaken and you really are related to Thomas, I can safely say that creativity and talent in photography runs in your genes!
